Security update: Levelling up multi-factor authentication to protect your account
Keeping your super safe is one of our top priorities. That’s why, we’re upgrading the way multi-factor authentication (MFA) works across the Future Super app and online account.
This upcoming upgrade strengthens your account security across both platforms. It also paves the way for the launch of Future Ready Check – our new digital advice feature coming exclusively to the Future Super app, but more on that later.
What’s changing?
We already use app-based MFA to help protect your account. This means you use an authenticator app (like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator) to generate a secure login code each time you log in. These authenticator apps are downloadable from your App or Google Play store.
With this upgrade, we’ll be making some changes to improve how MFA works behind the scenes so it’s better integrated across both our app and online account. You'll still log in the same way with MFA after the change, but the process will be more connected across your app and online account.
What do you need to do
When this update reaches your account (by the end of May 2026), you’ll be asked to set up MFA again when you log in.
To complete this:
Log in with your username and password, as normal
You’ll be asked to set up your authenticator app
Open your authenticator app
If you previously had MFA with us, you’ll need to remove any existing “Future Super” MFA entries from your authenticator app
Follow the prompts on screen to set up MFA again
That’s it – it only takes a few minutes.
Once you’ve done this, you’ll need to use the new code generated by your authenticator app each time you log in.
Why do I need to reset my existing MFA?
Think of it like resetting your password, but for MFA. And for our members who have been through this before, we hear you and appreciate your patience.
As we upgrade the underlying security system, your existing MFA setup won’t carry across. Resetting it simply ensures everything continues to work securely and smoothly. Keeping your super safe is something we take seriously, and this update is part of that.
Why MFA matters
Multi-factor authentication is one of the most effective ways to protect your account from unauthorised access.
We use mandatory app-based MFA (instead of SMS or email codes) in line with Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) guidance. This helps protect against common cyberattacks.
Troubleshooting common MFA issues
If you run into issues setting up your MFA, here are a few common things to check:
Code not working? Make sure your phone’s time is set to automatic as MFA codes rely on accurate time settings. You can find this in the time and date settings.
Multiple Future Super entries? Delete old or duplicate entries from your authenticator app and keep only the most recent one.
Got a new phone? For the security of your super and to guard against scams, you will have to call us to verify youridentity when you get a new phone. Reach out to us on 1300 658 422 to verify your identity.
App not scanning the QR code? Make sure you’re using the authenticator app to scan the QR, not the camera app - or try entering the setup key manually instead.

Keep your account secure
While you’re updating your MFA, it’s also a good time to:
Use a strong, unique password that you don’t use anywhere else
Consider using a password manager to securely store your login details
Stay alert to phishing emails or messages pretending to be from Future Super
