MAY 2025 UPDATE
Here's what changed, why we made this update, and what it means for you, whether you're a current member or considering Future Super.
Future Super as a company has been around since 2014.
In May 2025, the investment structure was updated with a move to the Smart Future Trust and and the introduction of five new investment options. Previous options were closed, and existing members were moved to comparable options aligned to their risk profile. It’s the investment structure that’s new, not the company or our commitment to sustainable investing, our values and screening approach remain the same.
We made this change to offer more investment flexibility and reduce costs for members.
What you get now: More choice across five sustainable investment options, coaching & advice and lower admin fees.
What hasn't changed: Our values, screening and long term commitment to sustainable investing.

Current investment options launched in May 2025, so they're still building performance history.

Future Super backs the companies of tomorrow.
Your money is invested into renewable energy, climate solutions, and sustainable businesses, as we believe these companies are built to thrive in the world we’re heading into.
Fossil fuel, gambling, tobacco, nuclear, and weapons companies aren’t part of the portfolio.
Your super is invested based on the sustainable option you choose. Each option has a different mix of assets (Australian shares, international shares, alternative assets, interest bearing securities and cash) designed for different risk profiles and time horizons.
No, definitely not. Future Super isn't going anywhere, we're here for the long haul.
What is changing is the investment structure, and it's changing for good reasons: to reduce total admin costs for members and offer more options and services.
What this means for you:
What's not changing:
We mapped members from closed options to new options based on two key factors: target returns and risk profile (measured by the growth/defensive asset allocation split).
Generally speaking:
The table below shows how we matched closed options to new options based on these factors.

Important: This is a general approach to risk assessment. Your personal circumstances matter most. If you're unsure whether your new option suits you, we recommend seeking professional financial advice.
PermalinkBehind the scenes, your super is invested through a “fund” or a “trust” - it’s the investment structure that allows super funds to invest on behalf of members at the same time, and across multiple investment options.
These underlying investment structures are highly regulated – because your retirement savings deserve to be kept safe! They are also overseen by a trustee, the entity responsible for making sure the fund complies with all regulations and behaves in the best interests of members.
The Smart Future Trust is the name of the investment structure the investment manager will now be investing through. In the past, the investment manager invested through the Future Super Fund.
PermalinkThe new investment options launched in May 2025, so they don't have a long performance history yet. This is normal for newly established options.
Investment returns naturally fluctuate, especially in the early stages. A few months of data won't tell you how an option will perform over the years or decades your super is invested. Even with established options, what happened in the past doesn't guarantee future returns. Super is a long-term investment, so most members will invest for many years. The investment approach, asset allocation, and screening criteria are what drive long-term outcomes. These fundamentals remain strong and aligned with our mission to build a future worth retiring into.
As performance history builds, we'll continue sharing regular updates on how each option is tracking. You can always view the latest returns in your member portal and in our annual reports.
Still concerned? If you're unsure whether your investment option suits your situation, consider speaking with a financial adviser or chat with a coach as part of your Future Super membership.
PermalinkFrom July 2025 you will see your super balance recorded with the ATO and the name of your super fund. These details will be updated after 30 June 2025 when the annual review is finalised and we’re able to report account balances to the ATO. They may not be instantly updated on 1 July, but by the end of mid-July you should see accurate details with the ATO. In the meantime, you’ll be able to see your balance in your member portal and the Future Super app.
When we transferred from the Future Super Fund to the Smart Future Trust, we had to report a closure of each account within the Future Super Fund to the ATO. You’ll notice the closure date for your account listed as being with The Trustee for the Future Super Fund is 23 May 2025, the date of the transfer, and a new account will be shown with Smart Future Trust. However, this new account will initially show a $0 balance until July 2025. This delay in showing the balance in the new accounts, with Smart Future Trust, is part of the process and is expected.

PermalinkDon't worry, your Future Super account is still active. What you're seeing is part of the technical process behind the investment structure update.
When we transferred from the Future Super Fund to the Smart Future Trust on 23 May 2025, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) required us to report the closure of your old account in the Future Super Fund and the opening of a new account in the Smart Future Trust.
What you'll see in myGov:
Closed account: "The Trustee for the Future Super Fund" with a closure date of 23 May 2025
Active account: "Smart Future Trust" (this is your current, active super account)
Your super is safe. This is purely an administrative change. Your balance, investment option, and insurance transferred across automatically. Nothing has been lost, it's all in your new Smart Future Trust account.
Still concerned? If you can't find your active account in myGov or have any questions, please reach out at info@futuresuper.com.au or call 1300 658 422.
